Visit websiteThe newly refurbished Poole Museum is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. The incredible Poole Longboat now has its own huge climate-controlled space, and being able to see such an extraordinary piece of aPoole history so close up, rather than behind glass, is genuinely magical. The rest of the museum is equally impressive, with fascinating exhibitions exploring the history of Poole and the wider area, alongside some excellent artwork by local artists. The whole museum has a fresh, welcoming feel, and the gift shop is lovely too, with lots of unique and beautifully chosen items. Free and brilliant for families with kids any age. Was worth the wait.
Great experience, highly suggested! We actually only went into the museum because it was so hot outside during the May heatwave and we were looking for somewhere with air conditioning to cool down a bit. What a nice surprise we had! We ended up having a brilliant time and the kids absolutely loved it. It’s incredibly informative, taking you through a lot of great local history. The interactive bits were a massive hit—the kids had a fantastic time learning how to tie a proper sailor's knot! Highly recommended for a family day out!
It's a lovely local museum with each floor showing a different range of objects. Free entry to the museum is really good too and appreciated. In Scaplen's Court there is a very nice cafe and an attractive garden.
Excellent museum. A must-see in Poole. Allow at least two hours, preferably three, to properly see the eclectic collection showcasing Poole's unique history displayed over four floors of a refurbished mill. The wreck remnants are especially wonderful. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended
I came across this museum by chance so popped in as it was free. Turned out it was an excellent place to explore. The artefacts and collections are wonderful. All are well displayed with clear, interesting descriptions. I especially loved the ship wreck gallery. Very atmospheric with fascinating stories! The building itself is beautiful too. I would also like to thank the helpful staff. Olga on the desk and Lana in the ship wreck gallery are both very knowledgeable and spoke with passion about the museum and exhibits. Thank you! I hope people leave donations because it’s a great place to spend an hour or two.
