Beautiful museum/ art gallery with many fascinating items in the collection. £12.50/ adult to enter but today we had a 2 hour piano concert put on by one of the volunteers. Nice cafe, places to sit, great exhibits about flower fairies. The garden has a grotto and many basking sand lizards. Shop. Close to seafront.
Amazing museum! One floor is accessible with a lift, but the top floor not. A pity! A cup of coffee on the terrace is a lovely experience.
I absolutely loved the collection of pieces, but was disappointed to see that most of the ones I was interested in had no labels/information about them, which was awkward. I also feel like the tickets are way overpriced. paid £6 for a student ticket which was fine, but £12.50 for an adult is unnecessary. still, it’s a lovely place to go on a sunny day. beautiful terrace and friendly cafe staff. I was a fan of the gift shop as well.
What a lovely and fascinating place. The history of the couple who built this and opened it up to the public is captivating. They were very much ahead of their time to travel to so many places and bring back so many items. Visitors can see a bit of history and culture from so many places around the world from 100 years ago. Loved to visit this and would definitely recommend to everyone to visit at least once.
A beautiful, unique victorian home of the former mayor of Bournemouth, Sir Merton Russell-Cotes, and his wife Annie Russell-Cotes, given as a birthday gift to her with a garden and seaviews. The museum showcases art and artefacts from several countries, including Japan, which had a fond love of the culture and art. Including a decorative pond inside the home that had fishes when they lived there. Visited during the Christmas period which made the visit feel even more special with the various Christmas trees and decorations. In the gallery visited the Artist as Witness: The Impact of War exhibition with an installation of poppies to honour and remember those affected by conflict. The staff were friendly and helpful and the cafe is a calming space and the shop having an array of unique gifts and souvenirs including artwork, postcards, stained glass window art.
