An amazing old building and facilities with massive potential, but are sadly let down due to a lack of maintenance. The Turkish baths had a consistent damp/mouldy smell, and the entire facilities around the changing rooms and showers could use a deep clean. You can also see additional areas of the building (such as dedicated changing for the Turkish baths) which have seemingly been taken out of use due to lack of resources to maintain them :(

Dreadful staff attitude to a 70+ female who was supporting the Edinburgh Marathon in a Charity capacity . I asked to use the toilet and was told not unless you buy something. I explained I didn’t have money on me as we were supporting the Charity event and singing for the Charity. The middle aged female attendant was so rude and refused to allow me to go even though I told her I would go and get my friend outside to pay. I was refused with such a terrible attitude that I am compelled to report this. Surely Edinburgh Council employees have some sort of customer service training and if not this woman clearly needs it. To add insult to injury she the proceeded to stand outside the baths smoking and glaring at me. What an advert for Edinburgh Council Staff.

I've had a swim membership here for over a year - and this is my second time having a membership, after taking several years' break when I was doing a lot of swimming outdoors. I've been a local for seven years, and really value it as a resource. It's a public swimming baths - and is old! - so is subject to problems with both of the pools as well as the Turkish Baths, which are sometimes out of action for long periods of time, which is annoying. Over those periods (and school holidays) I appreciate that I can choose to make use of Leith and the Commonwealth pools, or indeed any other EL pools. I think the staff are great - turnover appears low, and they've always been helpful and friendly when I needed something. So despite the challenges, I'm really proud to support EL and to take advantage of the swim centre as a little local oasis.

The building itself is a nicely renovated pool from the late 18th century. The two pools are rather small and enjoyable only if quiet, while the gym I haven't seen much of or have ever used, but looks a bit tiny too. The only real "problem" I have is the unisex changing rooms with the showers not having a door, it makes washing and changing quiet uncomfortable. Staff is very useful, and if nice weather it's a nice view to come out to

At 10am it was already filthy. I'd booked the turkish baths and was told 'none of the hot rooms would be hot.' Its a good job I'd only visited because I had a free pass otherwise what would I be paying for? The changing rooms are foul. So dirty and also -unisex, with showers that don't have doors. I've never seen this in a leisure centre before and the whole experience was so uncomfortable. The gym is also tiny. The staff are really grumpy and not afraid to show it - When I told the lady at reception I was on a 7 day free pass and therefore wanted to know where to go etc as I'd not been there before, she rolled her eyes and sighed! Ha! You couldn't make it up! Will not visit again. The whole place made my skin crawl. Really don't understand the 5 star reviews, the place is disgusting.
