Explore a family-friendly wildlife garden showcasing nature-inspired gardening ideas, seasonal bird watching, and interactive habitats in a historic Suffolk village.

Flatford Wildlife Garden is a Suffolk nature reserve located in the picturesque village of Flatford, historically famous as the painting location for artist John Constable. The garden combines horticultural inspiration with active wildlife observation, offering visitors hands-on learning about creating wildlife-friendly spaces in their own gardens. Visitors can discover a variety of attractions throughout the garden, including a scenic pond boardwalk home to Common and Great Crested Newts, a living willow tunnel, wooden garden sculptures, and a cob Wall for Wildlife habitat featuring solitary bees and other insects. The garden is carefully managed to attract diverse seasonal wildlife, including swallows and martins in summer, damselflies over the mini-meadow, and mayflies performing aerial displays from the nearby river. The venue is ideal for families with children of all ages, featuring accessible pathways, a welcome centre, and knowledgeable volunteer staff who share expertise on wildlife-friendly gardening practices. Seasonal events throughout the year provide educational opportunities to learn about local wildlife and conservation. The garden's dog-friendly policy and pushchair-accessible facilities make it welcoming for all family members, whether visitors come for gardening inspiration, bird watching, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of this active nature reserve.

This was a really cool element of the Flatford experience. There is a beautiful garden with lots of information and things to see - I think kids would love it.

Wonderful wildlife garden. Birds and bees and plenty of picnic benches. Activities for children and space to sit inside to watch the bluetits nesting their other boxes.

Very calm, peaceful & beautiful. Informative staff & volunteers. Blue tips had just hatched, and we had a fascinating 'birds eye' view into the nest via the hidden camera. Beautiful plants for sale at generous prices.
