Great place to explore. Walked across the causeway to access the national trust property which was good. The causeway is a very uneven surface so not really suitable for those unsteady on their feet. Staff to get in were lovely and very informative. The walk up to the castle again is steep and very uneven. The views at the top are fabulous and well worth it. The castle itself is excellent and again, staff were great. Views from the top of the castle are again fabulous. We had ice-cream from the van in the field and they were very good. Later we had a sandwich and tea at the island cafe which was good, however, unlike most national trust site who serve tea in a teapot, they was in a paper cup which as a bit disappointing. We can back on the ferry (as the causeway was under water) which was £3.20 each and a five minute boat ride back to the mainland. Great fun! In summary, St Michael's Mount is a great day out.
Wonderful walk across the causeway just before the tide came in. We had pre-booked the boat back. The castle was incredible but the gardens were the most extraordinary gardens I have ever seen. Just stunning. The turquoise sea as a backdrop was so beautiful.
Lost a point on the entry price and food/drink pricing, I'll lead with that. After that the venue itself is jaw dropping levels of stunning, if you love a good vista, you'll have hundreds to choose from! One the way up to the castle is a steep and fairly uneven path, so if you struggle to walk or keep your balance this may be a little challenging for you, under 5s may need to be carried. There are lots of things to look at within the castle itself, lots of original artwork, furniture and relics of eras gone by. All the main rooms have a guide on hand, all seemed incredibly knowledgeable and with a keen interest in the history of St Michael's Mount. The roof areas are fantastic to explore, giving you a real sense of how this was chosen as a fantastic defensive position. It made my stomach curn a few times looking over the walls, but it felt safe, so was an exciting sensation rather than fearful. Overall well worth the visit, but please check you are happy with the prices before you make the long walk from the mainland to the lower entrance like we did! EDIT: I would like to add that the gardens looked very ornate and interesting from a distance. However they were closed the day we went and it was "all about the castle" as we were told, no concession in the entry price i noted, but there we are.
Gardens were absolutely beautiful, definitely worth a visit. We also went inside the castle which was really cool. The stained glass windows are lovely. Walk up the castle can be a bit difficult something to be aware of if you have mobility issues. Me and my wife had a great time.
We had a brilliant family day out at St Michael's Mount—one of those places that genuinely lives up to the hype. From the moment you set off across the causeway, there’s a real sense of adventure. The kids absolutely loved it, especially the treasure hunt-style challenge they were given—it kept them focused, exploring, and asking questions the whole way round (a quiet win for the adults too!). A little tip from experience: if you get your feet wet on the crossing, there’s a chance you might not be allowed into parts of the castle. We dried off fairly quickly once on the Mount… although my socks never quite recovered! Worth packing a spare pair just in case. The climb up to the castle is a bit steep in places, but completely manageable and definitely worth the effort. The views alone make it worthwhile, and there’s plenty to take in at the top. What impressed us most was how well-paced the visit felt. We had loads of time to explore, dry off, take in the surroundings, and let the kids have a bit of a play before heading back across ahead of the tide. The staff were fantastic—really knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the place. Some even support the residents living there, which adds a lovely sense of history still being very much alive. All in all, a memorable, slightly soggy, but thoroughly enjoyable family adventure. Would absolutely recommend it!
