Visit websiteI visited for special free evening event for pride month, and it was a great experience. The manor itself is stunning. It was nice just to appreciate the rooms along the way. Bonus that since it was after hours, I had many of the rooms to myself so I didn’t have to rush or make sure I was out of the way of others. I am not usually a huge fan of art museums but I really loved most of art of display here. Many portraits, some landscapes, any largely from the 15th - 19th centuries. It was really cool to see how much technique and proportions/perspective changed during that time. I wasn’t a fan of the modern art, but it is mixed in if you are more of a fan and looking for local artist displays as well. I had a wonderful time speaking with some of the docents while I was there, and found some to be quite full of information. I would very much recommend stopping in for a few hours.
Great museum. For the museum's size (which is kind of perfect if you don't want to be over- or underwhelmed), there are a lot of interesting things to enjoy. There is a lovely cafe and plenty of outdoor seating in a perfect environment. You'll enjoy the green of the trees. There is also a small gift shop that is lovely. I happen to love museums, but sometimes you don't want to get swallowed while by one.
As soon as you enter the long avenue of stately row houses with the magnificent georgian Holburne Museum in the distance you know one of the UK's best loved and favourite museums is the destination and your prize goal . The first museum built & to this day the premiere museum in historic Bath . You can be assured you will thoroughly enjoy the stirling exhibitions and collection of classical paintings , fascinating portrait miniatures , bronzes , ceramics and eye popping curios. The staff are welcoming and informative . A lift whiskes you up and down to all the thoughtfully laid out galleries . After absorbing the penultimate Holburne experience the coffee shop and bistro awaits to top off a terrific day at Bath's best museum .
Is it bad if I said I enjoyed the outside more than the inside? Some of the temporary exhibitions felt didn't suit my fancy, and frankly felt out of place. But the permanent collection is interesting. Some of the pastel portraits I particularly liked and hadn't really seen very many of before. I also really enjoyed some of the 17th century landscapes. The architecture is beautiful. And the gardens and park surrounding are gorgeous. You can enjoy the cafe without buying tickets. Highly recommend at least doing this!
Delightful Museum with a fantastic collection spaciously displayed over a number of floors. The staff were helpful and friendly, especially the lady in the gallery containing Holburnes personal collection who was extremely informative even pointing out the ring with the miniature portrait of King Charles I, which would never have been spotted overwise. Reasonably busy but still a calm relaxing atmosphere. The Museum is set in the lovely Sydney Gardens Park as well. The cafe was a bit disappointing, service was slow and tables and cafe were not particularly clean. There is a nice little gift shop. Definitely worth a visit ☺️
