So calm and beautiful place different from the rest of Belfast
A Must-See Landmark in Belfast! The Big Fish (also known as The Salmon of Knowledge) is a unique and iconic piece of public art that is definitely worth a visit while exploring Belfast. The 10-metre-long ceramic sculpture is beautifully designed, with its scales decorated using images and texts that tell the story of Belfast’s history and culture. Located right beside the River Lagan, it’s a great place to stop for photos and enjoy a walk along the waterfront. The sculpture is inspired by the Irish legend of the Salmon of Knowledge, making it even more interesting for visitors who enjoy local myths and history. It’s free to visit, easy to reach, and a fun landmark that adds character to the city. We really enjoyed seeing it and would recommend stopping by if you’re exploring Belfast! 🐟📸
Feb 2026. The fish sculpture is iconic, though it's just a fish statue, don't expect much beyond that. I visited during the rainy and windy season so I didn't walk around much, but you can cross the footbridge to the other side of the river.
Unique and Iconic Landmark! The Big Fish (or Salmon of Knowledge) is an absolutely delightful and quirky piece of public art right by the Lagan River! It's impossible to miss and instantly brings a smile to your face. The detail on the ceramic tiles, depicting scenes from Belfast's history, is fascinating to look at up close. It's a fantastic spot for a unique photo opportunity and adds so much character to the riverfront walk. Definitely worth a stop when exploring Belfast!
