Visited a couple times. Quite a large site with lots of information. Very well kept, you can certainly see how important this site was once upon a time. Also when we were watching Sharpe, we noticed in an episode they were at this fort! They used the drawbridge, which these days is rotten and inaccessible.
Staff were great, my son is doing his dissertation on star forts so this was an ideal place to take him. Easy parking and quiet withlotsof interesting artillery pieces. No activities for young children, but plenty of space to run around on and for picnics, plus a gift shop. Would recommend as a good place to go for 2 to 3 hours, but it is rather niche, so may need an interest in this type of history to merit the visit, for us it was just what we were looking for.
super place for a nice peaceful walk with the dog, kids or alone free parking too recommend for a quick walk to clear the air
Its a really interesting structure but it feels slightly run down but lacks signage of where one is permitted to go and isnt permitted to go. The staff is nice Its mostly an outdoor museum with only a very small indoor section and basically not display cases. If your visiting london from the cruise port terminal or passing by i recommend it as its worth a small detour but it i wouldnt plan a trip for more than a couple hours drive to see it otherwise.
Went here as a morning out. A few artillery pieces on view, some very rusty. A small exhibition about the place. Downside was bad for people with motobility issues, I understand it's a historical place, but you have to have facilities for elderly or disabled people. Nice place for a walk if you can.
