Lovely historical house and plenty to see inside and in the gardens. Beautiful architecture inside and their ceilings are so decorative.Plenty of interesting historical information to read and the staff are very informative and friendly. The gardens are peaceful to walk round with carved wooden animals dotted around. The only thing we were not keen on were the amount of wedding dresses scattered around in the rooms. They spoilt the look of the rooms and instead they should have been displayed in a separate room. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Well worth a visit. Reasonably priced and got a lot for the money - with exhibitions as well as being able to look around the house and gardens when it is quieter. Lovely pack up breakfast as I couldn’t be available during the times it was on. Kyle was fantastic and a real asset. Perfect for those wanting an event parkrun for their alphabeteer challenge. Only negative is we got a disabled room and so the mirrors were completely the wrong height for me.
We booked online which is a bit cheaper £12 instead of £14. The day I choose was a Saturday when the plant sale was on (not intentional) so it was very busy. There were also craft stalls located in the main building, it was a lovely event and enjoyed browsing at things. This said we could not enjoy all the architecture that Ushaw to offer as it was so busy. We did however enjoy the day, and we will definitely be going back. It is very interesting and beautiful inside. The cafe sells sandwiches & cakes (which were very tasty) it was also a windy day so we did not get to see all of the gardens but what we did see was well maintained & beautiful. You can upgrade your ticket for a years membership which atm is £28, they will take the price of your ticket off of this, well worth it if you are planning to visit again. I would recommend this place to visit well worth the time & a very reasonable price for a ticket to this beautiful place. This was a day trip so no idea what the accommodation is like.
We visit Ushaw house quite often and find the staff and volunteers very friendly and helpful. The food in the cafe is always fresh and good quality. There are exhibitions which change throughout the year....at the moment 150 years of Wedding dresses are on display. The chapel is beautiful and we always find the whole place relaxing and peaceful. I cannot comment on the accommodation we live locally and visit for a few hours.
The 'basic' rooms are well equipped, with comfortable beds, a great en-suite bathroom and a compliment of teas and coffees. No TVs in the rooms, but streaming through a mobile phone, or the free WiFi, was just the job. The cafe and restaurant are run by volunteers who are all welcoming and friendly on ensly and the breakfast is continental only with a good choice for most tastes. I highly recommend this venue for anyone who wishes for a quiet stay within easy reach of Durham city and the surrounding areas.
