Cafe offering Welsh rarebit, homemade soups, sandwiches and salads
One of the most stunning artworks of George Watts abd his wife Mary. The most famous painting called Hope is also part of this gallery. There is also a lot of Mary's lovely pottery and carved works displayed. The shop is also charming.
Had a great day here at the Watts gallery complex. Visited the historic galleries & went on the guided tour given by Helen? Who was extremely informative & entertaining. Lots to see. We then visited limnerlease house but did not visit the chapel as have been there a few times before.
The café at the gallery is excellent, the toilets are good and the gift shop is inviting. The gallery is interesting if you like that style of art. We viewed the exhibition about the Pattle sisters, which was highly informative, but through it all Mr Watts did not seem an endearing man. However, to see his statues of Alfred, Lord Tennyson and 'Energy' was a delight. Tennyson's statue we know we'll, it's on the green behind Lincoln Cathedral. The horseman is part of the Rhodes Memorial in Cape Town, a place we have also visited.
Stunning. The Gallery, House and Chapel. A fantastic visit made extra special as it was a crisp winters day when we visited a couple week ago. Great staff super friendly, easy to talk to about this history and art in general. We are no experts but do love a bit of art. Cafe is top notch the soup was out of this world.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Watts Gallery. The paintings by by George Watts weren't to my taste, but I enjoyed the other works, and specifically those by his wife Mary. The chapel in the cemetery is truly wonderful and worth a visit on it's own. The whole chapel building and internal artwork is magnificent. The tea shop has good gluten free cakes and meal options, which is a bonus for coeliacs. It was busy and well run by friendly staff. The gift shop is exquisite. Overall, a great place to wonder at an interesting slice of British art, slight excentricity dollop of philanthropy.
