The state rooms are gorgeous and worth a visit. Watching people do the broomstick lessons was hilarious. Beautiful area. I works say that 21 gbp to get in didn't seem to be worth it. There isn't that much to see. I think we were there for only 90 minutes and that included eating food.

After reading this was a Harry Potter filiming location I had it on my list of places to go. I did initially think the gardens were also part of it (as they had been recommended to me) however reading online I saw that they were seperate entrance prices and as the Castle did not allow dogs (totally understandable) and I didn't have mine I thought I'd visit. I am a member of NTS and their car parks are £5 so the price for this one not bad £3.75, and is shared with the Gardens. From the car park it is a small walk, but not that far. The people complaining must be used to never walking! I saw plenty of elderly people managing it easily. At the gate the gentleman told me that it was £24.50 or if I bought online using my mobile it was £22 to go in. So I bought online and that ticket is also valid for 12 months so I can come back again at any point in the next year for free. Yes there is no photography in the state rooms but that is understandable, I've been to lots of proeprties that are still homes of the owners that don't allow photography and if you want to remember what they look like watch Downton Abbey that had some scenes filmed there. There are lots of tours and things to do around the castle, I just visited the State rooms and walked around the edge and was there nearly 2 hours. If you took part in the tours and activities I could see spending all day there, which for the price is very reasonable. Every penny goes towards it's maintenance and running costs, and all the staff, I doubt the owners are raking it in as some people seem to think! Overall it was an enjoyable visit. It's a castle with some history, if that's your thing, then visit.

Alnwick Castle was a truly fantastic experience and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The castle itself is absolutely stunning, full of history, character, and incredible architecture that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Walking through the grounds and exploring the different rooms gave a real sense of the castle’s importance throughout history. One of the standout parts of the visit was the museum and war-related exhibits, which were very interesting and informative. There was so much to see and learn, and the displays were presented in a way that kept the experience engaging the whole time. The staff were also friendly and helpful, adding to the overall atmosphere of the place. For Harry Potter fans, this place is an absolute treat. Seeing the filming locations in person was amazing, and it was easy to recognise many areas used in the movies. It added an extra layer of excitement to the visit and made the experience feel even more magical. Overall, Alnwick Castle is well worth visiting for anyone interested in history, architecture, museums, or Harry Potter. There is something for everyone, and it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended!

We planned to visit the castle on our first day here and only realised it's Harry Potter connection after seeing the Harry Potter shop in Alnwick. And it was no mistake visiting! The walk to the castle was lovely, with cherry blossom out in pink and white. Beautifully mown lawns. The castle was amazing. The state rooms are well worth a visit. And the Film Tour explained all the places where Harry Potter was filmed. Including the location of Hagrid's house. There is an armoury, battlement walks, the prison and a pretty good shop. All in all, an excellent visit and fully recommended. And... good value too. Your ticket is valid for a while year. Thank you!

It is one of the most famous castles in the North East, but it is a little disappointing. It is mostly fortresses, the main castle is not as big as I expected. The book room is probably the best designed, but every other room is just not that impressive. I personally do not like the designs of the ceilings especially. The exhibitions of war heroes actually gave me a deeper impression, as their items are quite cool. The gift shops are nice. There is a bigger gift shop at the entrance, but the small gift shop next to the exit of the main castle has some fancier but also pricier goods. If you have kids, make sure to check their Quidditch event on the lawn. If you like cannons, you might get to see the staff “shooting” a cannon. I spend more time outside walking than exploring inside. The ticket is a bit too pricey. It might be more worthy for people who like walking around castles, rather than those who prefer spending more time observing the interiors of historical buildings.
