Absolutely beautiful, took me by surprise as I didn't expect to see such a variety of plants and flowers here. The rhododendrons and Azaleas stole the show but the tropical gardens are also incredibly impressive. The medicine cafe is also very very good- really great bakery and coffee and the staff were absolutely lovely and chatty. The quality of the pastries is on par with some of the best pastries I've had in London. I didn't get a chance to try the sandwiches but they looked really good, good ingredients and were totally sold out by the end of the day. I went in late May and it was definitely the perfect time to go as the Rhododendrons and Azaleas are abundant and there is such a huge variety of well established plants- if you want to see the roses then maybe late June/early July is a better time to go as they were not in bloom. The gift shop was also amazing and I seriously had to stop myself from buying out the entire shop. They had great local produce like honey, jams, preserves, beers and the like. They also had some clothes and accessories made by Brummie designers which I would have loved to get! Besides the novelty they were actually really cool and good quality stuff in some nice colours. There were also lots of gardening items, indoor plants, outdoor plants and a greenhouse in the outdoor section with succulents, alpines and other tropical plants. I bought a very, very beautiful violet coloured clematis, some honey, beers, magnets and a mug. Incredibly impressed by this place and will definitely come back the next time I'm up in Birmingham and drag my partner with me even though it's not his sort of thing, I think anyone would be beside themselves when looking at the beautiful azaleas.. it inspired me to get some of my own, they were seriously magical- I hope my photos do them justice 🙏🏻💛🌼🌺💐🏵️🪻🌹🪷

My visit to the Botanical Gardens was very disappointing. Firstly, various paths were closed and areas were being renovated, which was not told to me when I paid for my ticket. The lady at reception was rather rude and seemed to want to get rid of me quickly. I asked for directions to the meadow, but she didn't know about a meadow. After my own research I have discovered that there is no longer an outdoor meadow or perennial meadow, despite it being on their website. This was the main purpose of my visit. The gardens themselves looked neglected and areas looked tired. Wooden benches are needing attention. The cafe staff were friendly but I found the selection limited and pricey. The gardens were rather noisy and very full. Difficult to find my usual peace in nature. Honestly a disappointing and expensive experience. I much preferred the tiny Martineau Gardens I went to yesterday.

Absolutely beautiful. I could have spent all day here! The grounds and plants are lovely, there are plenty of things to do. The Medicine Bakery café is great and has vegan options. I came here alone on bank holiday Monday, but will come with friends next time!

16th May 2026. Many areas of special interest in the gardens were marked for restoration and therefore closed, hence only 4 stars; however, we had gone to see the rhododendrons and these were in bloom, very beautiful. The Medicine Bakery café was open and we enjoyed pecan and maple brioche buns with our drinks, very large and satisfying! The garden shop has a selection of plants (indoor and out) and other merchandise. We intend to go again later in the year.

An amazing place and well worth a visit in my eyes. The glasshouses are especially impressive, and throughout the seasons there’s always something different to see. Definitely worth getting a membership card if you plan to visit more than once a real gem hidden just outside the city centre. Lovely little gift shop that also sells plants.
