We went to Cardiff Castle for the Blackbird festival this weekend just gone. Really lovely grounds, staff were great, portaloos were kept clean, there were plenty of food trucks and 2 large bars and free water stations were available due to the hot weather. This experience for us was a really great one. We would happily come back to see a show here. Very small criticism is that there were not many spots for shade but, the high temperatures we’ve had this last week are a bit of an anomaly and I’m sure the rest of the year the grounds are beautiful to sit/stand in.

Visiting Cardiff Castle was an absolute highlight of our trip. The castle is beautifully preserved and full of history, with stunning architecture and incredible attention to detail throughout. Walking through the grounds genuinely feels like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is unique — peaceful, majestic, and deeply connected to Welsh heritage. From the impressive walls to the richly decorated interiors, every part of the castle was fascinating. A must-visit place in Cardiff and one of the most memorable historic sites we’ve seen in the UK.

We bought tickets but it's nice that the coffee shop area is free to enter and you have a great view of the castle and grounds. The residential part is very beautiful and interesting. The bomb shelter tunnels are genuinely quite scary with the darkness and sound effects. I wasn't so interested in the military history in the museum.

Cardiff Castle is one of the most fascinating historical attractions in Wales and definitely worth visiting. The castle perfectly combines Roman, Norman, and Victorian history in one place. One of the most impressive parts was the magnificent Victorian Gothic mansion designed by architect William Burges for the Bute family. The interiors are extraordinary, with richly decorated rooms, detailed wooden carvings, colourful murals, luxurious furniture, and stunning ceilings that create a magical atmosphere. I also found the wartime shelters and museum sections extremely interesting, especially the information about how local people used the castle shelters during the Second World War. Walking through these underground areas gives a powerful sense of history and daily life during wartime. The castle grounds are peaceful, clean, and very well maintained. The staff were friendly and informative. Overall, Cardiff Castle offers a unique mix of architecture, culture, and military history in the heart of the city.

I have lived here for three years and never been in the castle. Finally got round to it and i was quite impressed. the interiors are ornate and beautiful and the exteriors are very impressive too. there were lots of different areas to explore including the tops of the walls and the living quarters and the tower. The WWII themes corridor was unexpected but exciting. I hoped there would be more artefacts and outfits perhaps but a lovely day out overall.
