Free to visit 1600s well to do family 'Castle' home. You have park on the road, only really 2 to 3 spaces, and walk across 3 working fields, when we visited had cattle in 2 of them. The entrance to the first field off the road was hidden in the hedge, all had access restriction gates or styles which made access for my wife very difficult. Saying that it was a pleasant walk across to the house/Castle and was an interesting half hour to look around.
Lovely little walk across 3 fields to reach Old Beapre.Only space in layby for 2 cars . Quiet piece of history. Well worth an hours visit.
What a brilliant castle tucked away and not easy to find. Off the beaten path across fields & over turn stiles, but well worth the 10min walk. Only room for upto 3 cars in the nearest recommended parking. Free to explore.
It's a lovely place to walk to, across three fields. There is a small layby which fits 2 to 3 cars. Beware of the cows in the fields on the way. Today, they seemed very calm and disinterested in us, but it's recommended to keep dogs on leads. If you're lucky, you may spot a heron or kingfisher on the river. There were also pied wagtails, swallows, buzzards, and red kites. It's usually very quiet here. When my children were small, we loved having treasure hunts here. It's a really beautiful place.
If you want to be away from touristy places and enjoy a bit of quietness then visiting this castle would give all of this. No exhibition, no furnished rooms, just a few signs telling the story of the castle. It is worth a walk around.
