I am giving Castell Coch 5 stars for its incredible history, having gone through so many stages of ruin, change and restoration, and for the beautiful work of the artist and designer of that period. I especially loved the boldness of the interior, with its bright and striking details. I would definitely recommend reading about the history of the castle before visiting, as it makes walking through every corner of the building even more interesting. The grounds immediately around the castle are not very large, although of course the surrounding woodland is absolutely beautiful and adds so much to the atmosphere of the place. Overall, we were left very pleasantly impressed. Castell Coch is a place with a fascinating story, and it is definitely a piece of history worth knowing.

Castell Coch (The Red Castle) looks less like a standard tourist attraction and more like a fortress pulled straight out of GOT with the ultimate House of the North vibe. Even with its current "home improvement" look on the outside, the combination of its incredible, moody woodland atmosphere and its lavishly decorated interiors make it well worth a visit. It is the closest thing to stepping into Winterfell you will find in South Wales!

Free parking close by (small lot, when full the next lot is a ways down the road). Castle under a major restoration, so scaffolding on one tower, and some parts closed. Overall a pleasant tour. Signage of the tour route could be better.

Wonderful experience! A masterful lesson in true love - a man built a castle for the love of his life, on the ruins of an old fortress. The young uni history major gave us a complete history, and her Welsh heritage coupled with in depth knowledge was essentially a free guided tour. Well worth the visit!

Looks like a fairy tale castle from the motorway driving into Wales. There is a carpark but this maybe full in busy times. It's extremely colourful and very well preserved, we were very impressed with the steward and his knowledge really adds to the experience. It was a shame it was having work done as it was obscured by scaffolding. I would definitely recommend a trip here and there are interactive things for the kids to have a go at.
