Impressive remains of the castle baileys, curtain walls, keep and moat. Site is free to enter and there is a teashop on the village main street for facilities and some lovely food. The guidebook available at the nearby Castle Acre Priory site covers the castle too, but there are information boards around the castle site

Highly recommended and free to visit. Park up in the village and walk down through the impressive stone gates. Turn left to the castle and enjoy the views.

Castle Acre Priory is a calm and beautiful hidden gem 💎. The place is so peaceful and scenic that we genuinely didn’t want to leave it’s that stunning. Exploring the area feels like a mini trekking experience, which made it even more enjoyable for us. We absolutely loved every moment and would definitely visit again! Parking is available, but there are no toilet facilities on-site something to keep in mind before you go.

We stayed nearby for a few days and decided to visit Castle Acre and what a little gem this small place is. There was so much history to see with ruins of the Castle and the Priory, sadly the Priory didn't open till end of March so we will have to return at some point but you can still get very close to see it , magnificent. We did a 6 mile circular walk which was lovely following the river, through forests all pretty easy level walking, dog friendly, not wet for us but would be during winter months. We returned to drop into The Ostrich pub for a light lunch, enjoyed a very tasty bacon and brie baguette with salad and chrisps, outdoor seating in rear garden area and dogs welcomed. There is a small supermarket and a chippy next to it, we returned the following evening to eat chips and watch the sunset over the Priory ☺️

Just a short walk from the Priory is the most impressive earthworks in the country! The works began in 1070 and through various improvements over the years to strengthen the defensive capabilities the earthworks have grown substantially. The sheer scale of them for a pre JCB era is astonishing. The grounds are pleasant to walk around and provide an opportunity to take in the view of the surroundings. Allow an hour to fully enjoy the castle.
