Visited to hear a talk about Claude Monet and a painting of his Ferens have on loan from The National Gallery. I wasn't prepared for the size or the scope of this place. It's incredible. A tardis. More rooms than I expected packed with an array of astonishing paintings from the 1600s through to the modern day. Unusually, it appears to me that there's a trend towards empowered women as a theme with some beautiful, striking, provocative pieces amongst the many items on show. The staff were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable and the talk itself was fascinating, informal, with plenty of time for questions. This is an absolute must if you're visiting the area. A strong recommend.

Worth to give it a go if you like to appreciate artworks. Currently, there are time-limited exhibitions for Monet and Moomins.

Free gallery that's a must visit in Hull. A varied collection with something for all tastes. My favourite was the pop artist Peter Blake's The Lettermen. On the more traditional front I never tire of seeing a Canaletto . Very quiet and calm on a Friday afternoon, a really enjoyable way to spend an hour.

We spent a fabulous 90 minutes and were taken aback by the wonderful exhibits. Highly recommend a visit.

This was on our to-visit list for our brief visit to Hull. I do find local art galleries interesting, especially as feature local artists and paintings, and this didn't disappoint. Lots of different styles and eras with a large ongoing exhibition of contemporary works. Don't miss the 'calm gallery' on the first floor. Contains a shop and cafe. Free to visit but donations appreciated.
