It's not allowed to take pictures or videos inside of the castle. The staff was very knowledgeable and shared quite bit of political tidbit. The garden is very beautiful, it's quite enjoyable experience to follow the trail.
Gardens are beautiful to walk around, plenty of bench seats to take a rest or enjoy the different views of the gardens through the changing seasons, unfortunately the Castle was closed so we need to come back. Amble car parking and I noticed discounts for people on certain benefits, check the website, if that applies to you. Advance booking a must.
Place of historical significance, lovely gardens and amazing staff members! James at the ticket desk was the jewel of the castle - he speaks Japanese! Perfect for tourists from Japan! And the tour guide was really knowledgeable! Cafe in the garden had tasty hot food and fresh cakes that will melt on your tongue! We had an amazing weekend there and 5* experience!
Fabulous place. Walled gardens, children's areas, woods, green spaces, stream. House tour is excellent. This visit I was in a wheelchair pushed by my daughter and had my grandman who is on the spectrum. The staff were incredible. Mobility bus was used for going up. Food in the cafe is delicious with plenty of options. Also if on UC it's a £1, with money off food purchases. A full day out.
Hillsborough Castle at Hillsborough, 25 km southwest of Belfast, Northern Ireland, isn't actually a castle. It was once common for wealthy Irish families to call their large country houses "castles" as this reinforced the antiquity of their name. The estate features both formal and natural gardens. Irish yew trees line Yew Tree Walk. Lady Alice's Temple (1867) is named for Lady Alice of the Hill family which built the estate. Until an expansion of the Hillsborough Castle Estate in the 1830s, Yew Tree Walk was a road of Hillsborough village.
