Launceston Castle isn't a huge site, and you'll have seen most of it fairly quickly. The views over the town are nice, and there's some interesting history tucked into the corners if you go looking for it, but the place feels mostly neglected. The grounds aren't fully explorable, sections roped off or taken up by things that feel like an afterthought. It's hard to shake the sense that the castle itself is the afterthought. They charge entry, which is where it starts to feel a bit off. It's not a ruin that's been lovingly maintained, it's a ruin that's been occasionally tidied. A bit of care and attention would go a long way. As it stands, you pay, you wander, you leave wondering what might have been done with the place. Worth a quick visit for the view, but don't expect to fill an afternoon.

Not a huge site but well worth a visit to climb up to the top to see the panoramic views - Brentor church clearly visible across in Devon. Perhaps an hour to walk around and read the information boards which are all very useful. Staff helpful and there is a small English Heritage shop at the entrance to the site. Useful pictures and background information in that entrance area. No on site car park but Launceston has many nearby car parks.

Had a wonderful visit to this spectacular castle. Views ( all over devon & cornwall )panoramic & history absolutely fascinating. Selina the amazing & knowledgeable, guide was a delight , & really made the visit so worthwhile. A credit to English Heritage. Thankyou Selina & English Heritage for a memorable visit . 10/10

Good views from the top of the castle. The history behind the castle is very interesting. Lovely staff. To walk round the grounds and read all info it will take about 45 minutes to 1hour 15mins. We have a membership so it's free but I think it's cheap even if you're not a member. Don't think there is dedicated parking... I parked on the road right outside the entrance (granted it was Easter day, so there was plenty of spaces) and that was 1 hour free no return within 3 hours monday - Saturday,, but as it was Sunday, it was free all day. Great for a morning out 👍👍👍👍

This castle still had quite a bit of it still standing. It was fairly high when you climbed up it. The view from the top was amazing. You can see for miles. It's worth the visit, especially for that view.
