Beautiful place to visit, recommended as a stop on your visit to Lewes. It's great to know the history, get to walk around the castle and enjoy the great views.

This ancient castle is steeped in history and located in Lewes—a charming small town deeply intertwined with England's past. From the reign of 'Bloody Mary' to centuries of political upheaval, this place has seen it all. If you’re a history buff, you shouldn't miss the chance to hear the stories and watch the historical films presented right here at the castle.

An interesting and inexpensive place to visit. There is a discount for English Heritage members. We parked close to Anne of Cleves House museum and Lewes Priory and walked to the town (10 minutes). Good views of the town and surrounding countryside from the top of the castle towers and information panels on each floor. The museum details the history of Lewes. There's also a town model and a video running on a loop.

The museum is small, but does have many interesting artifacts, and you need to visit museum to purchase your castle admission ticket As for the castle, the walk up with the views is,perhaps better than the remains of the castle. The castle rooms are empty and I think there were 4 floors to get to the roof. There is plenty of boards explaining the history, and you can admire the thickness of the walls. The vista across Lewes and the Downs is worth reaching the roof for. You can also visit the tower, wher if you wish you can dress up. All in all a good fun visit

11th century castle, unusual for having two mottes with towers, which offer superb views over Lewes and the surrounding landscape. The adjacent museum has quite a lot of interest, including a scale model of the town and informative 12 minute video telling the fascinating story of the town. The video plays on the hour and half hour. Recommend getting a combo ticket to also visit Anne of Cleves House while you're in Lewes.
