Visit websiteReal review - there are lots of options for parking with several areas to park down closest to the beginning of the promenade & up on the cliff (be prepared for the steps down)…see photos for cost - download ‘JustPark’ app this allows you to add time without returning to your car. The promenade has amusements, fish & chip shops, seaside/fossil/vintage shops - some lovely icecream places & hidden cafes (see my other reviews) walk along the promenade to the end to access the beach for fossil hunting - be aware that there is a lot of metal on the beach due to an old Victorian tip that is falling onto the beach (some lovely old bottles can also be found) but wear decent footwear. Also be aware that the tides cuts off the steps at high tide! Have fun - fossil can be found (no real skill needed - however see my Charmouth review) & several beautiful ones can be seen within the rocks.
Much loved beach overlooked by the charming town of Lyme Regis, largely shingle with a sandy area near the harbour. Well kept terraced gardens and picturesque cottages provide an attractive backdrop, while the views along the coast are superb. When the weather's good, you can see the towering summit of Golden Cap and beyond to the golden cliffs of West Bay and Burton Bradstock. When you've enjoyed some time on the beach, there's plenty more to do. Walking out on The Cobb, the town's historic harbour wall, yields good views back over town. It's worth walking along the main street with its independent shops and cafes, and exploring the surrounding streets with their colourful cottages. At the eastern end of the promenade there's a statue of Mary Anning, pioneering fossil hunter. We used the summer park and ride when we visited in August 2025. This worked well, with plenty of parking a frequent bus service and reasonable pricing.
Love it here, shame that like most beaches now they let the local dog community take it over out of season?..... Surely there could still be some degree of segregation for those who dont partake in the 'surrogate child' club & for those with small kids who don't want to be harassed by the little darlings running riot around everyone else 'just being friendly'
Small beach. Very clean with some sandy areas and some pebble. Small harbour. A lovely half day out for us for somewhere different to go whilst driving over from Weymouth. Plenty of interesting shops to look in. Cafes, ice-cream, fudge and lots of different places to eat to suit all budgets. Definitely worth a stay or a visit for an English seaside gem.
There is a lovely sandy beach and also a pebble beach. Also saw an area for dogs to enjoy the water. Found a pathway from a carpark down to the promenade 114 steps, there is a hand rail but some of the steps were quite a deep step down. Walked back to the car park via the town avoiding the steps but it's quite a steep hill to climb and some of the pavements are quite narrow, you need to walk one behind the other.
