Had never been before. So pleased we went, very pretty town with good beaches and lots of people enjoying their beach huts. Sadlt had wrong shoes on to look for fossils, but will do so another time.

Lived it. Loved it. We went from around 150 miles away and it was unfortunately raining but it was so nice that we loved it. The experience of walking on a beach of big stones where you can see history's unfolding itself is amazing. The Monmonth car park is quite well suited, but the one little further away is also fine. You enjoy the beach then keep walking west to reach these layers of stones which are slowly coming out with fossils from millions of years back. That means that the cliff next to the beach has been there from millions of years waiting for us patiently and silently to disclose nature's secrets after a million years!!! Wow! Its like any other pebble beach but this fossil thing was great. It is a must go and if the kids are aware they will love it. Please note the fossils are westwards at least 600 yards or more after the car park.... A great find as a family we loved it. That too when it was raining all the time. My first time visiting Lyme Regis Fossil beach its self was very enjoyable lots of people looking for fossils using hammers and chisel, i found the ammonite path at the far end of the beach fantastic if you have not found any fossils yourself. I did find some fossil imprints in a hardened clay, with no tools. STURDY FOOTWEAR is a must. Pebbles large stones to navigate, or wellies so you can walk along the lower part of the beach. Keep an eye on tide as always. , I found a big car park just out of the town, price was for the whole day was around £10 very good compared to £3 per hour with a max 2hrs stay at most of the other carparks. Short 10min walk down into to the town lots of WC's in the town and along the front. The carparkni used was possibly a mile from Fossil beach, but i was in no rush. Plenty of closer carparks just a shorter stay.

Make sure you check the tides and the weather before visiting. There are bathrooms although very limited and the parking down at the beach is very pricy. I can't comment on the other parking spots but they would require walking up and down a STEEP hill. We loved out afternoon here. Definitely recommend for a day out.

Loved it. You need to catch low tide and beware not to get caught out by a rising tide. This section of the prehistoric coastline doesn’t disappoint. Access is via stones rather than the shingle beach, which makes it hard going at times, but look at the reward at the end. It’s an amazing walk.
