A country pub situated approximately 10 minutes walk from the beach via the woodland trail
Magical place I tend to catch the first train to Scarborough, then cycle on the old cinder train track to this amazing spot, it only takes about 45 mins and is pretty flat on that section and very scenic too On arrival just walking through the woods down towards it is exciting as you slowly hear the sea in the distance and then the pebbled beach opens up with the waterfall of course. Generally there's no one else there so its like having your own beach. Off tomoz as having a temporary heatwave and taking a hammock so I can set it up in the trees Bliss
This is one of the smallest water falls you will ever see. But the overall scenic beauty of this place is good. You need to park near the "Hyburn Wike Inn" and carry on for about 0.5miles on foot. The waterfall itself is no good but the beach filled with pebbles and stones in picturesque.
We parked at the pub at the top of the trail, called The Hayburn Wyke (well worth a visit too) and walked down through the steep field and the steps and trail through the mixed deciduous woods to the small rocky beach and the waterfall. Though small it is a great waterfall, with a small pool under it. We also explored further up in the stream, and took the coast path in both directions. The walk is a bit of a work out, and the field and trail are slippery when wet. It wasn't busy when we were there, and we met very few people on our walk in the area. I would recommend.
We went during winter, on a very wet, grey day. The ground was very slippery, uneven and just a huge boggy mess - so take suitable footwear (You have to walk through a field of sheep, this was the most boggy, but it improved slightly after this. However, it was all still very beautiful! The woodland walk is calm and scenic and the sound of the river / waterfall / sea waves crashing etc was quite soothing. Again the ground is very uneven and slippery when wet. Needless to say - NOT suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Check tide time before you go because when the tide is in, there is barely any beach exposed and you can only get close to one if the 2 waterfalls as one is blocked off when tide is in. The beach is composed entirely of large rocks / stones, so it's very hard to walk on. Unfortunately there were also areas that had alot of litter dumped. I hope the National Trust read this and tackle it.
A great walk along the cliff tops before descending through woodland to the waterfall. There are some steep slopes but it is well worth the effort You can reach the waterfall from the pub which is a shorter walk but still steep in places but the cliff top on a sunny winters day give you some fantastic views
