It's a shame that castle itself is closed for unseen future, specially as it was actually place Beatrix Potters family first rented during her childhood around lakes and most likely is where she got lots of inspiration. Grounds however are lovely and provide great access to the lakes. NT has got coffee and portaloos available to use.

This is a fantastic place to visit with the whole family. We enjoyed the long walks around the castle grounds down to the lake and then a relaxing coffee by the castle itself. It’s easy to access and the grounds, castle and staff are all beautiful. A truly worthwhile visit.

Really lovely walk and great cafe. Castle was close for refurbishment which we knew ahead of visiting so would like to come back for the castle. Really lovely walk along the lake.

Closed for the past 3 years and probably for another 2 more years. Luckily I didn't take tickets as I'm already a National Trust member, but driving here wasn't easy. It was mentioned as open on Google Maps, but it should have been 'Temporarily Closed' as only the grounds and cafe are open. Will return another time when it's fully open. For now I'll just walk around the castle, have a coffee and go.

Lovely castle although the castle itself isn't open as it's under restoration at the moment and you won't be able to go inside for another year or so, it does however have a lovely cafe serving food and coffee with a nice seating area with lovely views over Windermere. You can still walk around the grounds and along the shore, the Windermere launch stops too.
