June 13th, 2026 our hotel, Another Place, suggested visiting when I asked about grand houses and gardens nearby. It was beautiful! 158 acres of gardens and miles of walking paths. The rose garden is the most extensive I’ve ever seen. Most of the rose garden was just beginning to bloom. I suspect it’s even more magnificent in late June. The riches to rags to rebuilding is a cautionary tale. The cafe is cute and the rest of the grounds are breathtaking. We were recently at Chatsworth and the extensive gardens at Lowther reminded me of Chatsworth. The children’s play area is fantastic. There were kids and families everywhere. Clearly they are very welcoming to kids.

We have just spent a lovely afternoon at Lowther Castle and Gardens. We saw the castle in the distance and thought it looked wonderful, so we changed course and found it. Loads of parking, costing just £2 and then £16 adult entrance fee. There is an exhibition about the history of Lowther, which guides you into the ruins of the castle. The grounds are beautiful and are a work in progress. We caught the rose garden in full bloom. Although we didn’t see them, there are red squirrels. The children’s adventure playground looked fantastic. As we left, we noticed that a year’s subscription was just £32 which seemed like a bargain! We will definitely visit again to see how the gardens have developed. A lovely place to visit.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What an incredible day out. We visited with a 4-year-old and a 4-month-old and were blown away by both the grounds and the customer service. The café was exceptionally breastfeeding friendly. I was able to feed my baby comfortably, staff happily provided free water, and despite there being people waiting for tables, there was absolutely no pressure to rush or leave. As a breastfeeding mum, that kindness and understanding meant a lot. The Littlies of Lowther deal is honestly one of the best value family offers I’ve come across. For £20 we received entry, a children’s meal, a cheese scone, soup and a coffee. It felt almost too good to be true and made the day much more affordable for families. The gardens were stunning throughout, but the rose garden was something special. It genuinely felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience and is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. The adventure playground kept our daughter entertained for hours, the grounds are immaculately maintained, and there is so much to explore that one visit hardly feels enough. We would visit again in a heartbeat and will be recommending Lowther Castle to everyone we know.

Now the castle ruins are open to walk about in it made a nice difference. We all loved exploring and taking it all in. The gardens are beautiful, we love the Japanese one and were surprised to see how much the rose garden has grown since our last visit last year. The kids loved the big adventure playground in the forest. It's a gorgeous walk around the grounds too and some amazing views if you head through the forest. Staff at the cafe were very friendly and helpful, and let me in to buy coffee even though they had closed, so that I didn't have to stand at the window and get caught in the rain.

Went during Easter holidays for a day out and what a wonderful place it is! A fabulous Castle and fascinating history. A relatively recent 'ruin' so much of the shell is still there to see. Lovely gardens and grounds too. Kids loved the play area which seemed to have something for everyone. I can imagine the annual pass would be great value if you go throughout the year and the changing seasons. Car parking included in the entry, or you can use the car park and pay on RinGo and go for a walk where you want to. Info boards at the car park for some suggested walks. Dog friendly too, except the kids play area. Will definitely be back! Can buy tickets in advance or on site
