We all know the frustration of taking older kids to overcrowded beaches where there is no space to set up, play, or enjoy a quiet afternoon. Families need accessible, spacious coastal spots where older children can spend hours digging and building without the chaos of packed tourist crowds. We choose Westbrook Beach for family outings because the wide stretches of soft sand offer ideal conditions for massive sandcastles, heavy digging, and catching magical sunsets in a peaceful setting. Our kids spent hours building sand structures uninterrupted on a quiet shore; while the strong seaweed smell and muddy water kept us out of the sea, the quality of the sand and low crowd density made it worth a return visit.

Scenic beach that give access to beautiful sunsets !! The sand here is also incredibly clean and soft, feeling very fine and floury. May be a bit difficult to get to as there is a short walk but all in all, a pleasant attraction. 😊

Wonderful beach. Soft and sandy all the way out to where it's deep enough to swim (ok, at high tide at least!). Bring your BBQ down after 6pm. Unfortunately we got blown away when we tried but you can't win them all! Horses can get onto the beach for evening photoshoots (it seems!). Parking can be tricky in the area so be prepared to hunt.

Beautiful beach with soft sand and plenty of space to enjoy a day out. It feels more peaceful than some of the busier beaches, which makes it great for relaxing or a gentle walk. It’s dog friendly too, so perfect if you’re bringing pets along. There are handy facilities nearby like toilets and adventure golf, and free parking which makes it even easier for families, couples, or anyone just wanting some fresh sea air.
